Workshops in drip monitoring and interpreting soil moisture

Northwest Victorian farmers can make the most of the water on their properties thanks to two education courses.

A drip monitoring and maintenance course will be held in Irymple on April 23, and a second workshop on how to best interpret soil moisture monitoring equipment will be held at Robinvale on June 13, with a repeat at Irymple on June 14.

Designed to get the most out of your system, the drip course is a free half-day session aimed at maximising farm profitability and efficiency.

It will be presented by Jeremy Giddings, Agriculture Victoria’s Mallee regional irrigation manager, at AgVic Mildura SmartFarm in Koorlong Ave, Irymple, from 8.30am-12.30pm.

He and fellow presenter Peter Henry (Netafim) will be helping participants understand design and specification sheets, monitoring, measuring pressures and discharges as well as flushing, chlorination and acid injection.

Mr Giddings said the soil moisture course – also a half day package – is designed for irrigators looking to have a greater understanding of interpreting soil moisture monitoring data.

It will be held at Robinvale Resource Centre at 72 Herbert St, Robinvale, from 9am to 11am and the next day at the AgVic Mildura SmartFarm in Koorlong Ave, Irymple, also from 9am to 11am.

“There two workshops will be done in conjunction with Green Brain, the environmental and irrigation specialists,” he said.

“Everyone attending is encouraged to bring their login details and share their data with the group if appropriate.

“The program includes topics such as soil water principles, understanding graphs, summed and split-level graphs, setting refill and fill points, graph responses, integration/data presentation and your own data.
