THEY do things big at Speed – but in 2024 the little town that roars really outdid itself.
The 44th incarnation of its Mallee Machinery Field Days smacked it clean out of the park with the biggest display of machinery in its history.
And when we say big, we really mean big.
The GrainKing Nyrex Maximus Bin also proved a talking point for local farmers, many being mesmerised by its size.
Measuring 5.5 metres wide and 22.7 metres long, the 300-tonne mother bin travelled from Western Australia to be part of the two-day event.
Not to mention the mother bin from Brome Engineering, which was shipped down from Grenfell in NSW for the occasion.
MMFD secretary Matt Brady says the field days got the lot this year – from perfect weather to big crowds.
Matt also says Traction Ag’s autonomous tractor demonstrations were among the most popular events that attracted large crowds as farmers gained a glimpse into the future of the agricultural industry.
“It was quite a spectacular sight to see the first tractor of its type driving around with no human at the helm,” he says.
MMFD also managed to put on a show and a whiparound to raise $20,000 for FightMND, with Terry Daniher attending the event as the charity’s representative.
