Citrus growers renew sweet deal

KEY industry representation and lobby group, Citrus Australia, has announced an extended deal with a multi-national food technology company.

Confirmed mid-last week, TOMRA Food will continue as a major corporate partner with the peak industry body.

Based out Belgium, TOMRA Food operates in more than 100 countries and supplies technology to range of sectors include agriculture and food production as well as mining, waste recovery, and recycling.

The deal with Citrus Australia will focus on fruit packing, grading, and quality control.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with TOMRA Food,” said Citrus Australia CEO Nathan Hancock.

“They really are leaders in their field when it comes to sustainable and efficient sorting, grading and packing solutions for our members.”

With the partnership locked in for a further two years, a statement from Citrus Australia said it would include local and international tours for growers to see equipment in action and get training, along with research opportunities linked to better sorting systems and technology.

TOMRA Food will also have a large presence at peak industry event the Australian Citrus Congress set for the New South Wales’ Riverina in mid-March next year.

The company’s Asia-Pacific region leader Paul Slupecki said the deal with Citrus Australia would help further develop offerings in the citrus packing and distribution space.

“We look forward to continuing to improve the post-harvest sector for Australia’s citrus industry through this partnership,” said Mr Slupecki.

“Our focus is always on finding ways to help improve sustainability, reduce food waste and increase productivity for growers and packhouses.”

TOMRA Food joins other Citrus Australia partners like fellow packing and grading company edp, fertiliser and pest control supplier Tanuki, water market provider Waterpool Trading, packaging provider Palogix, and transport and storage company ChillSafe.

Meanwhile, nominations for the Citrus Australia awards have opened.

Categories include Value Chain Innovator, Hall of Fame, Emerging Leader, and Service to Industry with nominations are open until Friday, November 22.

Winners will be announced at the Australian Citrus Congress.
