The Nationals member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has been appointed Shadow Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development, as part of Jess Wilson’s new Shadow Cabinet announcement.
Ms Benham said she was honoured to take on these responsibilities, which align closely with the needs and priorities of the Mallee and wider regional Victoria.
“It’s an incredible privilege to be asked to take on this role. Agriculture is the backbone of our community and one I have championed for a long time. It’s rewarding to see my hard work recognised,” Ms Benham said.
“Regional development and agriculture are not abstract concepts for the people I represent. They are our way of life, and our future. I’m committed to fighting for fairer outcomes for all regional Victorians.”
She said the appointment recognised the importance of regional voices at the decision-making table and the need for stronger advocacy after years of neglect and under-investment.
“The regions deserve a state government that listens. In this new role, I’ll keep pushing for practical, common-sense policies that support farmers, grow our regional economies and strengthen communities right across the state.”
Ms Benham thanked the Victorian Nationals leadership for their confidence in her.
“I’m grateful for the trust placed in me,” Ms Benham said, adding she looked forward to delivering positive outcomes for everyone who depended on this vital sector.
“That’s everyone by the way. Every single person needs a farmer every single day.”
