Ouyen sheep sale stays strong

OUYEN’S sheep sale on Thursday has maintained its strong start to the season, with another big yarding of more than 14,000 head.

Exchange manager Colin Mole said that included 8491 lambs and 6002 mutton (totalling 14,493) selling to a high of $262.

McKean McGregor Mildura – the new kids on the block – were again a dominant player on the day with a significant percentage of sheep sold.

On the day Mr Mole reported quality lambs were firm to $5 to $10 cheaper on the previous sale, with secondary lambs also $5 to $8 softer.

However, short skin, well finished lambs sold to better competition and the heavy mutton lines were firm, with the lighter mutton easing $10.

Heavy Dorper mutton was also well supported and firm.

The next scheduled sale will be on Thursday, February 27.
