Photo call goes out to women in regional, rural and remote NSW

THE Rural Women’s Network has launched its BeRural photography campaign, focusing on capturing and representing regional, rural and remote women in NSW.

NSW Minister for Women Jodie Harrison said regional woman were being asked to take a selfie or other photo that captured the essence of their life in a regional area.

“We are after selfies that include their environment, their town centre or their farm, rural landscapes with interesting features or livestock, rural woman meeting or volunteering, and small business owners and entrepreneurs.”

Ms Harrison said the photos would be used to help promote the network, activities and future campaigns and to ensure its content was representative of real, authentic women in NSW.

“It is aiming at capturing the essence and diversity of regional and rural woman in NSW,” she said.

“It is important that rural woman can see themselves in other people and see that there are woman with similar and different experiences.

“This is really about raising the profile of people who are often quietly sitting in the background doing what they need to do: farmers, volunteers families and business owners.

“This campaign is about raising their profile for the benefit of local woman and for the benefit of the people of NSW.

“Recently at the Women of the Year awards I met some fantastic women from regional NSW and they are quiet achievers, so it is important to raise that profile.”

Ms Harrison said the photos would be reviewed by the Rural Woman’s Network and used on social media channels and in promotional campaigns.

Subjects would be consulted before their photos were used, she said.

Once regional women have snapped a photo, they are being encouraged to email it to ruralwomensnetwork@dpc.nsw.gov.au.
