Groundwater use survey

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is asking for feedback from groundwater users in the West Campaspe area to develop a new set of management rules for the long-term protection of groundwater resources.

The West Campaspe groundwater management area (GMA) extends from Huntly to Cohuna and includes the townships of Leitchville and Gunbower.

GMW is developing a local management plan (LMP) to outline clear management arrangements for groundwater resources in the West Campaspe area.

GMW groundwater and streams manager Matthew Pethybridge said engagement with current and prospective groundwater users as well as community members would help shape the new plan.

“The purpose of the local management plan is to communicate how GMW will manage the groundwater in the region is managed fairly and sustainably for all users and the environment,” he said.

“We want to ensure the plan fits the needs of our customers and the broader community, so we are eager for people to have their say on it.

“We’re asking for feedback from groundwater users in the area in regards to groundwater levels and water quality monitoring – this information will help inform decisions in creating the new local management plan.”

Following this consultation, GMW will prepare a draft local management plan that will be available for public viewing and for groundwater users and community members to provide further feedback on before it is implemented.

People can share their thoughts at yoursay.gmwater.com.au and the survey closes on June 30.
