SUNRAYSIA’S almond industry is big business – and now it’s going to be helped into the future by something as simple as an app.
With the backing of the Almond Board of Australia, GoMicro has launched a phone app putting, it said, precise quality assessment directly into the hands of growers.
This mobile technology could potentially reshape the industry by enabling farmers, processors and traders to conduct objective almond quality checks, ensuring consistency across the supply chain.
GoMicro CEO Dr Sivam Krish said his company’s app removed the guesswork from almond grading.
Dr Krish said farmers now had a free, straightforward tool to evaluate almond quality, providing transparency from cracking to sale.
He said with this artificial intelligence-powered app, growers could confidently align with market standards without the need for costly, large-scale equipment.
“For almond growers, this tool means dependable quality metrics at every stage of processing, from the orchard to the buyer,” Dr Krish said.
“Growers can evaluate the cracking process to ensure minimal mechanical damage and maximise the crop’s market value.
“Accurate, unbiased assessments empower farmers to engage directly with buyers, offering consistency which minimises trade disputes and maximises fair returns.”
Dr Krish said the app united every link of the value chain, from farm to processor.
He said the aim was for a fully accountable almond industry, where quality is measured accurately and reliably at each stage.
“The technology has already demonstrated a 95 per cent accuracy rate and can be customised to reach higher levels,” Dr Krish said.
