Keeping your finger on pulses

ANYONE in the Mallee growing pulses and wanting to get a bigger bang for their buck will want to be at the pulse field day being held at Rupanyup on Wednesday next week

Agriculture Victoria, Frontier Farming Systems and Grains Research & Development Corporation are inviting farmers, agronomists and industry representatives to be part of the day to hear the latest in breeding and agronomic advances for lentil, chickpea, faba bean and vetch from industry specialists.

AgVic senior research agronomist Audrey Delahunty said the key benefit growers would get from the field day is a first-hand look at the latest locally validated research, which would help them maximise their pulse crop production.

“This is real, in-the-field, practical research which will directly benefit local growers,” she said.

The event aimed to showcase several new field pea and lentil varieties and include information about herbicide tolerance traits, disease management, frost and heat mitigation, and marketing opportunities for pulses.

A panel session focusing on chemical use patterns and managing residues will also be held with industry experts from McMullen Consulting.

The free event starts at 9am and will conclude at 12pm with a complimentary barbecue lunch.

Tickets are now live at www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1293887.
