Bridge work starts

GOULBURN-Murray Water has started work to replace the Hayes Road Bridge at Lake Boga.

The works will replace the existing single-lane bridge with a dual-lane crossing, improving public access to the northern subdivision.

GMW infrastructure delivery services general manager Warren Jose said the new dual-lane crossing would be a significant improvement on the existing service.

“It will provide easier access to the new subdivision to its northeast, and will also improve safety for people who use the bridge,” he said.

The bridge will remain closed to traffic in both directions until May 30.

GMW will provide an alternative route by building a temporary dual carriage access track through the subdivision, which will open up on Rob Roy Road.

Detours will be signposted during the closure period.

Traffic from the south will divert along the Murray Valley Highway to Fish Point Road, north into Rob Roy Road and west along the temporary access track.

A walking track will also built for Lake Boga Primary School students to cross the bridge to get to and from school.

GMW has contacted essential services so they can adjust their routes accordingly.

“Please remember to take extra care when using the surrounding roads, as there will be increased traffic and heavy vehicles in the area,” Mr Jose said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that may result from the road closure.”

For more information about the works, phone GMW on 1800 013 357.
