New firearm storage requirements

New firearm storage requirements

VICTORIA Police is urging all current firearm owners to check their existing storage arrangements to meet the new firearm storage minimum standards set to be enforced later this month.

From August 30, all licensed firearm owners, including Category A and B, must store their firearms in storage units made of steel at least 1.6mm thick that is purpose-built, has a sturdy lock and if less than 150 kilograms when empty, must be bolted to the structure of the premises.

The move comes as Victoria Police cracks down firearm theft, to ensure they aren’t falling into the hands of thieves on the lookout for weapons to aid further serious criminal offending.

Your say on renewable energy

THE VFF is preparing a submission to the Victorian Transmission Investment Framework (VTIF) Preliminary Design Consultation Paper.

The peak farming body has repeatedly called for a state-wide plan for renewable energy, transmission and distribution in a way that is fair and affordable.

The VFF called for consultation on where Renewable Energy Zones are and how they balance against other land use and policy priorities – such as farming.

The proposed framework is a partial step towards a timely co-ordination of investment in transmission, generation, and storage infrastructure across Victoria. It seeks to better integrate land use considerations, environmental impacts, and community views into the planning process.

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) webinar: catch-up recording and resources

THE VFF webinar was the largest ever webinar with more than 1200 fellow audience members.

It was a clear demonstration of not only the concerns in the community, but also the willingness to do all we can, as an industry to keep us FMD free.

You can access a recording of the session at

.

The VFF is also working on answering all the questions that organisers didn’t get to in the webinar. You can view the questions that have been answered on the VFF website.
