Research field day a deep dive into irrigation

The Irrigation Farmers Network will stage its spring research field day, in Kerang on Thursday, September 14.

This event is a platform for farmers, researchers, and industry experts to explore cutting-edge research in irrigated crop production.

Under the theme of ‘unlocking innovation in irrigated agriculture,’ the spring research field day will be a day of discussions, research results, and hands-on exploration of the latest crop varieties in the field.

The event includes an impressive lineup of topics and speakers including:

· Optimising irrigated grains – Nick Poole from FAR Australia will deliver key learnings from three years of research, including practical tips and strategies for optimising grain productivity.

· Variety trials – This session will feature seed industry experts, including Rob Harris from AGT, Ashleigh Byrne from Pioneer Seeds, Karl Schilg from Pacific Seeds, Adrian Cater from NuSeed, David Moody from Intergrain, David Leah from RAGT and Stuart Ockerby from Seednet. They will share insights from irrigated variety trials, discussing the nuances of selecting the best varieties for optimal results.

· Using AgTech in Irrigation Scheduling, from low tech to high tech – what tools are available, Rob O’Connor and Tim Robertson, AgVic.

Charlie Aves, executive officer of the Irrigation Farmers Network, expressed her excitement to open the gates of the research farm.

“This event is an opportunity for farmers and industry to come together, walk through local irrigated trials, and discuss results that will have direct benefit to farmers across the region,” Ms Aves says.

“Irrigation Farmers Network is a community-driven organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in irrigated agriculture,” she says.

“Through networking events, workshops, and research initiatives, we empower farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape.”

The field day will take place at Irrigation Farmers Network research centre, 407 Kerang-Koondrook Rd, Kerang, starting at 10am.
