THIS year’s vintage is shaping up well across the Murray Darling.
Duxton Vineyards, operating more than 2400 hectares as well as a large-scale winery, are reportedly on track for a strong vintage.
“We’ve enjoyed a growing season defined by mild conditions and low rainfall, which has helped keep disease pressure at a minimum and allowed vines to thrive,” wine and grape commercial manager Tony Allen said.
“Our canopies are well‑balanced and healthy, and both bunch and berry development are tracking well considering we started very early last year.
“All indicators point to a high‑quality vintage although we are yet to see if the recent heatwaves will impact our vineyards from a quality perspective, though the first batches of juice look very good.”
Mr Allen said early-ripening varieties have been given an excellent start thanks to mild and consistent weather.
“We’re seeing strong natural acidity and vibrant flavour development across the board,,” he said.
“Standout performers such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are showing a great combination of freshness and concentration thanks to the steady conditions and low disease pressure, it’s a really encouraging sign for the rest of the season.
“Our vineyard teams have done an outstanding job managing the mild, dry conditions, and the fruit is reflecting that care and attention, the vines have had an ideal run so far and we’re expecting a good result from a quality perspective.
“Each vintage is different and throws different challenges but I’m particularly excited about the balance we’re seeing, and looking forward to crafting some high quality wines.”
