If you are going to have a crack at canola, you might as well go for gold.
Literally.
Quambatook farmers Lou and David Chirnside have got about 1700 acres of canola carpeting their property Glenaila and even they admit it’s looking “pretty good”.
Lou said things were running a little dry in July, which checked the crop a little, but then they received some timely rain to get it going again.
“Then a week ago we got another 21mm with a further 20mm this week so that has been really helpful,” Lou said.
“Seasonally, things have been going about as well as you could hope for and we are still looking at harvesting this canola around mid-November.
“But I guess that will be David’s decision, he’s basically running the show today and I’m steeping back – and Glenaila is his home property, so I reckon I will step right back from the decision.”
